PST Recovery Tips for CRC Error

A PST (Personal Storage Folder) can be termed as Microsoft Outlook‘s prime repository of data. The file consists of information like, received and sent emails, notes, calendar, contacts, and many more. Thus, one can easily understand the impact of losing data because of PST corruption. An Outlook user might encounter numerous of such instances while using Outlook. This article briefly explains one of such instances.

Below is an error message that an Outlook user might receive while downloading emails:

“File path\filename.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic redundancy check.”

As mentioned once, this error occurs because of PST file corruption, but let me explain the exact case.

The Cyclic Redundancy Check usually appears when application finds a mismatch between the exact and calculated value of checksum value stored in the file. Now, what is checksum? A checksum (also called, hash sum) is the fixed-size datum calculated using a random block of data in the file. The purpose of defining the checksum is to detect errors that may have been introduced during file transfer or storage, just as in the case above.
